☕️Coffee Chat With Web3 Digest: Issue #9: Pi Coin Is Now Trading — What’s Next For The Community?
A conversation with Szymanski on Growth, Insight, Community, and the Next Wave of Web3

gm Web3 Digesters,
Welcome to September! ✨
After years of speculation, debate, and doubt, $Pi is finally trading on exchanges.
For some, it’s a milestone they never thought would come; for others, it’s a validation of years of belief and community persistence.
To unpack what this means for both skeptics and believers, we sat down for Coffee Chat with Szymanski, a well-known crypto content creator and voice in the Web3 space. From his early DeFi days to shaping narratives around adoption, Szymanski brings a unique perspective on how communities like Pi Network rise, evolve, and sometimes defy the odds.
We talked about why $Pi’s listing matters, the criticisms it has faced, and what’s next for one of the most active communities in crypto. This is more than just another token launch—it’s a story of conviction, skepticism, and the test of whether community can create long-term value in Web3.
Grab your cup. This one’s worth sipping.
You’ve built quite a reputation as a crypto content creator and influencer in the Web3 space. Could you share a bit about your journey—how you got into crypto and what drew you to become a voice in this fast-moving industry?
That's kind of you to say! My journey into the Web3 rabbit hole wasn't exactly planned, more like a curious stumble that turned into a full-on sprint.
I remember back in the early days of DeFi, around the 2017 bull run, or when NFTs started getting really interesting, I kept hearing whispers about this 'Bitcoin' thing, and then the whole concept of decentralized finance and digital ownership just completely blew my mind.
Honestly, at first, it was overwhelming! So much jargon, so many new concepts. But the sheer potential of this technology – the idea of a more open, transparent, and user-owned internet – was incredibly compelling. I started devouring every piece of content I could find, experimenting with small amounts, and just trying to wrap my head around it all.
What really drew me to becoming a 'voice,' as you put it, was seeing how many others were just as fascinated but also just as lost as I initially was. I realized that by sharing my own learning journey, breaking down complex topics in a relatable way, and highlighting the exciting developments I was seeing, I could maybe help others navigate this space.
Plus, let's be real, the energy in Web3 is infectious! It's a constantly evolving landscape with passionate builders and a vibrant community. Being able to connect with those people, share ideas, and contribute to the conversation – even in a small way – is incredibly rewarding. It feels like we're all building something truly new and transformative together, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.
As someone actively shaping narratives in the space, what’s your perspective on the role of content creators and influencers in driving adoption and awareness for Web3 projects?
That's a really insightful question. I think content creators and influencers in Web3 have a huge responsibility and opportunity when it comes to driving adoption and awareness. We're essentially bridging the gap between the incredibly innovative tech being built and the everyday person who might be curious but also understandably intimidated.
Think of it like this: Web3 can feel like learning a whole new language. As creators, we're like the translators, taking complex concepts – whether it's DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, or the metaverse – and making them digestible, relatable, and even exciting. We can tell the stories behind the tech, showcasing the real-world use cases and the potential benefits for individuals.
We also play a crucial role in building trust. Because the space is still relatively new and, let's be honest, has its share of scams and complexities, people are looking for voices they can connect with and who provide honest, unbiased information. When we genuinely believe in a project and can articulate its value proposition clearly and ethically, it can significantly impact how people perceive and interact with it.
Furthermore, we help cultivate communities. By creating engaging content, sparking conversations, and fostering a sense of belonging, we can bring like-minded individuals together around promising projects. This community aspect is vital for organic growth and long-term adoption.
However, it's not just about hype. I believe the responsibility lies in providing balanced perspectives, highlighting both the potential and the risks. We need to encourage critical thinking and responsible engagement, not just blindly push projects.
Ultimately, content creators and influencers are storytellers and educators in this evolving landscape. We have the power to demystify Web3, build trust, foster communities, and guide newcomers on their journey. It's a role I take seriously, and I believe it's essential for the healthy and widespread adoption of Web3 technologies.
$Pi is finally trading on exchanges after years of anticipation—despite doubts from many who never believed it would go live. What’s your take on this milestone, and how do you think both the skeptics and the broader Pi community are reacting now that the token has hit the open market?
Okay Wow, the Pi Network listing is definitely a moment! After all the years and the 'will it ever happen?' questions, seeing it trade is pretty significant. You've got to hand it to the core team and the persistent Pi community for sticking with it.
I think the skeptics are probably doing a double-take right now! Many wrote it off, so seeing it live on exchanges likely has them reconsidering, even if they're still cautious about its long-term value.
As for the Pi community, I imagine it's a mix of excitement and maybe a bit of 'now what?' There's likely a surge of initial trading and price discovery. The real test will be how the community continues to engage and how the utility of the Pi token evolves in the real world. It's a huge step, but the journey's definitely not over. It'll be fascinating to watch how it all unfolds.
Over the years, Pi Network has faced criticism and accusations—some calling it a scam or alleging it's a data mining operation disguised as a crypto project. How do you respond to these concerns, and what do you think has kept the community strong despite the skepticism?
It's impossible to ignore the criticisms and the 'scam' allegations that have followed Pi Network for years. In the crypto space, skepticism is healthy, and when a project takes this long to reach a major milestone like exchange listing, those questions naturally amplify. Some of the concerns around data collection and the lack of immediate utility were understandable points of contention.
However, what I think has kept the community so resilient despite this skepticism is a few key things:
Firstly, the sheer scale and dedication of the user base are undeniable. Millions of people have been actively engaging with the app daily for years, holding onto the belief in the project's vision. That level of commitment isn't easily dismissed.
Secondly, the core team has consistently communicated and continued development, even amidst the doubts. While the pace might not have satisfied everyone, they kept building and working towards this exchange listing. That persistence likely instilled some level of trust within the community.
Thirdly, the idea of accessible crypto mining on a phone resonated with a lot of people who felt excluded from traditional mining. This ease of entry created a strong sense of shared ownership and potential.
Finally, the listing on exchanges, despite the initial doubts, provides a tangible outcome. While it doesn't erase past criticisms, it does represent a significant step that validates the years of effort for many within the community.
Ultimately, I think the Pi Network story is a complex one. The criticisms raised valid points, and the project's journey has been unconventional. However, the community's unwavering belief, coupled with the eventual exchange listings, showcases a unique dynamic in the crypto world. Moving forward, the focus will likely be on proving its long-term utility and addressing any lingering concerns to truly silence the skeptics.
Pi Network has one of the most active communities in crypto—even before the token launch. Do you think this level of engagement can translate into long-term value now that the coin is live? Or was it mostly driven by speculation?
That's the million-dollar question with Pi Network, isn't it? Having such a massive and engaged community before the token even hit exchanges is definitely unique and a huge asset.
Whether that translates to long-term value now that $Pi is live really hinges on a few things beyond just the initial hype. The community's strength gives it a fantastic head start in terms of adoption and network effects. Think about it – millions of people are already familiar with the concept and potentially willing to use the token. That's not something many new projects can boast.
However, engagement driven purely by the anticipation of value is different from engagement driven by actual utility. If the primary driver so far has been the hope of getting rich quick, we might see some of that initial enthusiasm wane if the price action doesn't immediately skyrocket.
For that strong community to translate into long-term value, we need to see:
Real-world use cases emerge: Can $Pi be used for goods, services, or within a thriving ecosystem?
Continued development and innovation: Will the core team keep building and adding value to the network?
Genuine adoption by businesses and merchants: Will we see actual demand for using $Pi as a medium of exchange?
So, while the active community provides a powerful foundation and a significant advantage, its long-term impact on $Pi's value will depend on its ability to transition from speculative excitement to genuine utility and real-world application. The potential is definitely there, but the execution will be key.
